The gold standard

It seems that almost all dollhouse light fittings are gold which is often very nice, but not always. I don't want gold fittings in my French hallways so I got busy with my favourite spray paint, Rust-oleum x2, and I now have two pretty white lights ready to install.

In Australia Bunnings stock Rustoleum paint, some other hardware stores may also.

Great idea Norma, I always find that the gold looks too shiny, and a bit fake. Hadn't thought about painting them but its a great idea. IndyPoppy

A mi tampoco me gusta demasiado ese color oro tan brillante que tienen las lámparas y para tu casa estilo francés,son mucho más adecuadas esas blancas, que te han quedado geniales!!!!

They look lovely Norma and more in keeping with the style of your property. I've been doing the same - going from brassy gold to mud colour for my servants only I used enamel paint. The downside to that is a longer drying time.

Marvellous idea Norma, I have changed the colour of the lampshades before, but hadn't tackled the fitting itself.....they look brilliant!

I love Rustoleum! Far better then Krylon or other brands. The light looks amazing painted. I have also read about using acetone to remove brass laquer and then ageing the raw brass. This is a future project!

They look wonderful Norma. It is such an economical way of getting good working lights in the rooms and by making them look just that little bit different you create a very personal look to your house. I do the same. I don't think I have a single mass produced light in my houses which I have not altered in one way or another.

They look so different now Norma, I like it a lot! I'm not too keen on shiny brass either. Or brass at all. But sometimes it's fitting and if it's nothing with (unremovable) wires it goes on the stove - in the fire - and then in some oliveoil. Makes them less shiny and gives them a nicer, more realistic colour and finish.

Hi Norma
The lights look fabulous. Can you please tell me where you buy the paint? Bunnings?
There doesn't seem to be a lot in the way minis in Victoria.
